ABOUT MATTHEW J. ARMSTRONG

Experience

Since 2014, Matthew J. Armstrong, Barrister & Solicitor has been practicing law in the Greater Toronto Area. Armstrong has appeared before all levels of the Courts of the Provinces of Ontario and British Columbia. Armstrong has conducted over 30 motions, over a half dozen trials and over a half dozen appeals.

For the first decade of his career, Matthew built his practice exclusively through word of mouth. In order to do so, he relied on his current and former clients to recommend him to others. Matthew has been successful in building his practice because he consistently provides excellent service to his clients. Matthew is proud to say that his clients consistently recommend him to others.

Matthew's practice has extended to a wide-array of areas of the law. From class actions, and complex-commercial litigation to family law and corporate and securities advisory, Matthew has sought to provide a near full-service practice to his clients.

 

In order to deliver results, Matthew employs and individually-tailored, strategic approach to each client matter.

Education

Prior to his call to the Bar, Matthew articled at a Bay Street law firm in Capital Markets and Mergers & Acquisitions. 

 

Matthew obtained his law degree at the University of Toronto, the top law school in Canada, where he was recognized for his academic achievement. He served as a research assistant for various professors including a now Justice of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and acted as an assistant editor of the Law Review.

Prior to law school, Matthew worked as a Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) instructor, having scored in the top 1% of all test takers.

​

Matthew obtained a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University, the number one business school in Canada. Matthew graduated early, in three years, and was recognized for his academic and athletic achievement with various awards and honours.

About Matthew

​

At both U of T and McGill, Matthew played on the Men's Varsity Tennis Teams. At U of T, Matthew was a part of the OUA Championship team and served as captain on the Men's Varsity Tennis team in his final season.

​

Prior to university, Matthew grew up in British Columbia. Matthew maintains a small part of his practice in Vancouver and Victoria, BC.

​

Matthew is proficient in Spanish and has represented clients, speaking exclusively Spanish. Matthew is pleased to make use of interpretation services to better assist his clients. Matthew has Russian interpreters available.

​

When not in court or on the tennis court, Matthew enjoys weightlifting at his home gym, cooking and chess.
